Over the past several years, the state has changed its expectations regarding the graduation project which all seniors must complete. As a result, we have re-constructed our senior project to reflect these changes.
In the past, senior project was a scheduled class course; this year it will be a project completed within a course. Many schools around the county have fulfilled the graduation requirement in this manner and now, Haverford students will complete this requirement in like fashion. This is not the former senior project in a new class; instead, this is a project which is now done in one of the appropriate classes counting as senior project.
The basic expectations for senior project are the following:
Students must fulfill their senior project through a specific course. This school year, students will be able to complete their senior project in any of the following semester courses:
– Any AP course
– Core Senior Classes in Math, Science, English, or Social Studies
– Any 2nd year elective and beyond
– Any 3rd year and beyond language course
During the first few weeks of school, teachers will notify students of projects within the course that are eligible to fulfill the senior project requirement. These projects are mandatory of all students; however, students are allowed to choose which project, in which class, will be used to represent their senior project. Once the student has chosen which assignment will fulfill this requirement, teachers will be notified, and students will be given a grade both for the class and a pass/fail grade for the senior project.
• At this time teachers should have notified students of their options.
• On October 5th, students will be able to declare in homeroom the class in which they will complete their senior project. Teachers of those classes will be notified by October 12th.
• Teachers will be given a form with a student name and a section for a grade, this will be completed and submitted to the office by January 5th.
There are two (2) assignments in Humanities that can be designated as senior project assignments:
Students who designate these assignments as senior project will receive a grade for the course and pass/fail grade for the purposes of senior project.
