Essay 4: The Photo Essay
The Situation
A photo essay combines, pictures, words, and sometimes sounds to tell a story. We are going to create photo essays and post them to the website to communicate a story.
The Purpose
- Tell a vivid and interesting story.
- Use words, images, and sounds to tell that story.
- Write clearly. Photo essays require the author to be precise and to allow the pictures to tell the story.
The Audience
High school students
Methods
- Use Photo Story 3. This program is on every PC. Go to START (the window icon on the bottom left of the computer screen). If Photo Story is not on the pop-up menu, select "All Programs" and find it on the list.
- Use Roxio Photo Show at http://www.photoshow.com/home/start. Free to sign up with an email address. Shows made on free accounts last for 30 days.
- Use the software on the iPad.
Process
Select a theme or story you want to tell. See below.
Collect at least 4 pictures that tell your story. You can take your own pictures or find them online.
Write a caption for each picture.
Combine your photos and captions using the software.
Record voice-overs and add music to make your story more personal and more vivid.
